2. Eat Tart and Bitter Foods ~ it makes life ‘taste’ sweeter.
Did you know that bitter foods are healthy for your heart? Eat a Green Apple per day (start with something easy). Tart foods are less sweet by nature, and this curbs your taste for sweet, and helps you lose weight over time. The New Moon is connecting you with the sweetness of life, not indulgence. Pleasure in all things can come from a balance of all 5 or 7 flavors in your foods.
In Chinese medicine, the taste of bitter in foods is connected with all the herbs and foods which assist heart health. Nopal or Cactus and bitter melon are both bitter foods which can help regulate blood sugar and cholesterol and maintains heart health.
3. Celebrate the Season of Lights
This New Moon is the second to last New Moon of 2018 and December Solstice. This is the descent into darkness for the year in the northern hemisphere, everyone! From this New Moon through December Solstice are the shortest days and less light. It’s a time to descend into more rest, warm times by the fire, discovering harmony and developing your intuition by practicing being with the quiet.
This is the Season of Lights or Diwali in India
The Season of Lights or Deepavali / Diwali always begins in the dark moon; two new moons from winter solstice.
Since this is the darkest time of the year, it is marked by a celebration of lighting ghee lamps all night long. Also connected to the myth of the return of a Warrior King, Ram, where the people lit lamps all along the path to his home, so they could have a sage return home. The King of course was being flown home Deepavali or Diwali is
The southern hemisphere is opening into the light; this is your second to last New Moon before December Solstice and the longest day of the year. You too are celebrating Light. This time of year can start to become too expansive, so the Red Days or the day before each New Moon in November and December help you ‘pool’ your energy and take a little rest in the midst of the ‘stay up late’ and revel in the sun with family, friends and nature.
Diwali begins on Nov. 7, 2018
Since India time zone is ahead of UTC, it appears to start earlier if you look at Indian news sources. Diwali ripples across the globe, like a New Year’s celebration. The Moon is darkest on Nov 6 & 7, with the Moon becoming New on Wednesday night in most of the northern hemisphere. In the Indian calendar system and Vedic Astrology, the Moon’s first day is when it rises NEW with the Sun. So, Wednesday Nov 7 is the night of dark moon, and the time to light lamps and LET LIGHT IN!
Gratitude, Pleasure and Abundance
This is a special gratitude and abundance nourishing New Moon.
Celebrate Your Abundance and All That You Have this New Moon.
It’s the season of Gratitude and this new moon in Libra sets a special energy of prosperity and healing.
Meditate and Move slow on Red Days
Red Days are perfect for dropping into deep spiritual and meditation practices and Red Days are often the day that world religions with solar-lunar calendars begin a season. Red days are days for withdrawing from the world, so they are for spiritual practices, not about ‘worldly’ practices like business and work.
Nov 7 & 8 both are wonderful days to sit and meditate. Spend extra time writing about what you are letting-go of this season, and then let your mind wander to what you want to call in over the next three months. Don’t focus intensely on these days ~ let your heart-mind lead the way, and see what echos up from the depth of your being.
Pleasure New Moon
What simple things bring you pleasure? While Venus is in Libra (and this New Moon in Libra strikes a chord of asking where and how do you want to feel connected and experience more pleasure in your life. Not indulgent, sitting in a soup of melted chocolate kind of pleasure, but how do you want to see and feel your life on a weekly basis- who is important to you, what friends keep you laughing at life and yourself? How can you add more time with the fun-loving times in your life?
Then let it go for a few days. Use the New Moon as a time to let your heart identify what and with who you want to spend time.
Also on the Red Day ~ listen to your body. Be gentle.
Find Pleasure in Stretching and Listening to your Body ~ or singing from your soul.
Move slowly, gently stretch and listen…in the midst of your movements. Even stretching is a pleasurable experience, if you allow yourself to BE with your breath and body completely.
Open your self to love and raise your vibration as you run down a list of people, circumstances, and moments you are grateful for.
This vibration raising works stronger, and affects your mood and happiness more if you think of people, circumstances and moments for which you are thankful from the previous two days. Our minds anchor the experience when we are more specific.
